It’s Never too Early to Plan for Manufacturing Day

August 8, 2024

Manufacturing Day will be here soon, in the first week of October, signaling the start of an annual, month-long, nationwide effort to dispel common misconceptions about the manufacturing sector and inspire young people to pursue careers in this dynamic field.

As a thought-starter for companies that may not have participated in Manufacturing Day before, the PLASTICS Blog is looking back at what a leading player in the manufacturing industry did last year

On October 6th, 2023, Brueckner Group opened its doors to the future generation of innovators and engineers by hosting a Manufacturing Day event at its state-of-the-art facility in Dover, New Hampshire. This special day was designed to give high school students from the surrounding area a firsthand look into the world of manufacturing, showcasing cutting-edge technologies and career opportunities available in the industry.

Eager students exploring opportunity

The day kicked off with the arrival of 15 students from four different high schools, eager to explore the new facility. They were warmly welcomed and guided through a comprehensive tour that offered a glimpse into the intricate processes and advanced technologies that power Brueckner Group’s operations.

Following the tour, the students gathered for a series of presentations by industry experts within the company. These professionals shared insights into their unique career paths, shedding light on the diverse roles and responsibilities that make up the manufacturing sector. The presentations highlighted the technical aspects of their work and emphasized the importance of innovation, problem-solving, and collaboration within the industry.

A highlight of the day was the captivating machine demonstrations held in the company’s cutting-edge CIC (Customer Innovation Center). The students witnessed firsthand the power and precision of the machinery that plays a crucial role in the manufacturing process. The demonstrations showcased Brueckner Group’s technological prowess while providing the students with a tangible understanding of the real-world applications of educational pursuits.

Collaboration as a tool for success

To make the day even more engaging and interactive, Brueckner Group collaborated with PlastiVan®, a program of SPE-Inspiring Plastics Professionals that specializes in education centered on the science and applications of plastics. The students were immersed in hands-on activities that sparked their scientific curiosity and deepened their understanding of the vital role plastics play in modern life. PlastiVan’s involvement added a dynamic and interactive element to the event, encouraging the students to consider careers in engineering and related fields.

Brueckner Group’s Manufacturing Day not only demystified the industry but also inspired the next generation of talent to explore the exciting possibilities awaiting them in the field of manufacturing. By providing a blend of informative presentations, hands-on demonstrations, and interactive activities, Brueckner Group successfully planted the seeds of curiosity and passion for manufacturing in the minds of these young, aspiring engineers.

“Manufacturing Day is a great way for Brueckner Group USA to get in touch with students. It is critical for us to understand what their needs are in order to win them for our successful internship program or to hire them directly for a permanent position. We also want to introduce all the prospects which we can offer as an international machine building company,” said Brueckner CFO, Thomas Schallinger. “In order to build first class machines, we also need great talent. And we know that it is getting more and more difficult to find the right talent. Therefore, we are looking forward to welcoming all the students at our facility and giving them insights about Brueckner for 2024 Manufacturing Day.”

Manufacturing Day 2024 is on October 4, with events running throughout the month. If you start planning now, you can have an excellent and informative program in place by October. The Manufacturing Day website is a great place to find ideas and other planning resources.
